DTES/Strathcona

A lack of tree cover and parks in Strathcona and the DTES make these neighbourhoods some of the hottest in the city.

Vancouver’s west-side

Large lots with plenty of tree cover keep Vancouver’s wealthier western neighbourhoods cool.

East Van. and Burnaby

Many lots in East Vancouver and parts of Burnbay are smaller than in western Vancouver, leaving less room for trees and other green space and pushing up temperatures.

Whalley

Whalley’s median household income is the lowest in Surrey – and ground temperatures there were some of the hottest in the city.

Surrey

Stretches of parking lots, roads and industry that absorb the sun’s heat raise the temperatures of neighbouring residential areas in Newton, which typically have lower incomes and fewer trees than South Surrey.

Langley City

Much of Langley City is covered with asphalt and other heat-absorbing materials from malls, parking lots and businesses, pushing ground temperatures to among the highest in the region.
